Letter to my stomach

Dear Tummy,

Please understand that I know you have needs. I try to satisfy you as often as I can with tasty food. But lately — well, ever since I started training for this 1/2 marathon — you’re demanding a lot.

I normally don’t eat breakfast. You know that. But I’ve been eating every morning to try to fuel up for my run. I’ve switched to whole grain everything because people said that would keep you happy longer. I’ve been eating apples and bananas as snacks, and drinking water like my name was Shamu.

But the growling is just uncalled for.

It’s happening in meetings, at my desk, in my car, and most annoyingly WHILE I’M EATING? Have you no patience? Can’t you even let the food get to you before you decide you need more?

I get that maybe, MAYBE you’re doing all this growling because I wasn’t eating properly in the past. And that MAYBE since I’ve started trying to do better, you want me to keep it up and feed you great things all the time.

But you gotta cut me some slack.

This whole thing is new to me. I’m finding that foods that used to satiate me all day are now leaving you unfulfilled within the hour. I have to adjust my eating – how much and what I eat apparently has to change.

Just know I’m working on it. I just need you to be patient in the meantime.

How do you talk about listening to your body in one entry and then tell your body to be quiet in the next?

I’m confused so I know your body is perplexed. Tighten Up TDot!!

      See, you misunderstand.

I’m just trying to tell my body that I know it needs more. And to stop nagging me. I get the message!
